Michel Foucault revived classical culture, seeing in the ancient Greeks and Romans a complex understanding of human relations, a path that leads to self-knowledge. The objective was to present the historical, institutional and cultural context of the life and trajectory of the French philosopher Michel Foucault, author of this semiological and political recovery of the concept and practice defined as “the care of the self”. Thus, Michel Foucault began to frequent the intellectual cafés of Paris and there he met Jean Barraqué, a musician, who would be his companion for a long time. It was in this epistemological whirlwind that Foucault re-energized his conceptions, evaluating the meaning of the concept of power in the philosopher, and appreciating the journey through classical culture. “Self-care” in Brazil, as we have seen, was characterized by unique concerns that, similar to Foucault’s legacy, extended to the field of education.
