The COVID-19 pandemic has led to rapid and unprecedented changes in the lives of millions of children and adolescents. There has been a significant increase in mental health problems in children and adolescents during the pandemic, which can lead to manifest disorders over time. Given this global scenario, this study will describe the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of children and adolescents. This work is an integrative literature review, based on the following guiding question "What are the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of children and adolescents?". Original articles were considered eligible, available in full, published between 2020 and October 2022 and in Portuguese, English and Spanish. Duplicate studies, simple and expanded abstracts, letters to the reader and guides were excluded. The searches were carried out in the electronic scientific bases of LILACS and MEDLINE via the Virtual Health Library in Brazil. The results found in the investigations reveal a worrying scenario for the mental health of children and adolescents. The prevalence of mental health problems during the pandemic has increased considerably, with exacerbated generalized anxiety, depressive symptoms, sadness, loneliness, fear, obsessive compulsive disorder and suicide attempts. Therefore, the importance of understanding and recognizing that children and adolescents are integral parts of social groups that deserve more attention and care in the face of post-pandemic consequences is highlighted. Furthermore, it is necessary to understand the short, medium and long term consequences of this pandemic in order to prioritize and minimize them in all social institutions where children and adolescents are present.
