Abstract

In this study, we aimed to determine whether seasonality affects the essential oil (EO) content and yield of Piper tuberculatum (Piperaceae) leaves and ears. For this, the leaves of P. tuberculatum were collected around the Córrego Buriti, Tangará da Serra, MT, between October 2020 to September 2021; and after submitted to hydrodistillation in a modified Clevenger type apparatus for 4 h. Thus, it was shown that September-21 (0.52%), November-20 (0.21%), October-20 (0.16%), December-20 (0.16%), March-21 (0.14%), however, the yield of EOs followed the same pattern of monthly variation verified for the content, with September-21 (100.37 mm³), November-20 (47.84 mm³) and October-20 (37.04 mm³) showing higher values. In the Correlation and Performance analysis, it was verified that the levels and yields of EOs from P. tuberculatum showed a significantly strong and positive correlation (0.99), and that the climate variable temperature is also significantly positively correlated to the content (0.72) and yield (0.76). Through simple linear regression, it can be observed that the EO content and yield of P. tuberculatum increased with increasing temperature. Our results show the influence of seasonality on the EO production of P. tuberculatum and determine the best collection times.
