Euschistus heros is a key pest of agricultural crops in Brazil, controlled with synthetic chemical insecticides, which can select resistant insects and be harmful to the environment. Thus, alternatives such as the use of essential oils (EOs) have increased due to the selectivity and biodegradation of these substances. Here, the objective was to evaluate the toxicity of EOs extracted from leaves of Piper tuberculatum on eggs of different ages of the bug E. heros. Euschistus heros populations were collected in soybean and field mint, and felt strips of fabric were used as substrate by females for oviposition. After obtaining the eggs at rearing, they were glued on cards and sprayed on the eggs with 5 concentrations of EOs diluted in acetone (0.25; 0.50; 1.0; 2.0 and 4.0%) and with 2 controls (acetone and distilled water). The cartons containing the treated eggs were stored in tubes, kept under controlled conditions of 25 °C. To evaluate the ovicidal effect, the number of nymphs that hatched was counted, whereas the nymphicidal activity of the EOs was evaluated from the emergence of the 1st instar nymphs. The data are submitted to the assumptions of the Analysis of Variance and the means compared by the Scott-Knott test (p ≤ 0.05). The EOs of P. tuberculatum made the eggs unviable in the concentrations of 0.5; 1.0 2.0 and 4.0 %. It also obtains a ninficial effect in low concentrations of EOs (0.25 and 0.50%). This indicates that P. tuberculatum is a promising species for further studies aiming at or controlling E. heros.
